Matviyenko: Russian Federation supports the initiative of Kyrgyzstan on the parliamentary dimension of the SCO

Bishkek, Nov. 28, 2018. /Kabar/. Russia supports the initiative of Kyrgyzstan to resume the parliamentary dialogue through the SCO, Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko told Tuesday during a meeting with Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament) Dastanbek Dzhumabekov in Moscow.

The head of the Federation Council highlighted the good level of interaction between Russian and Kyrgyz parliamentarians at international platforms, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta wrote.

"This is both the CIS IPA and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the CSTO PA, it is very important, especially in view of the current development of international events, to carry out a "synchronization of watches ", act from comon, coordinated positions, defend the national interests of our countries," she said

"We hope for further active cooperation, we support the idea of ​​our Kyrgyz partners to renew the parliamentary dialogue of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization," she added.

“I know that you have planned to hold such a meeting within the framework of the parliamentary dimension of the SCO on December 13-15 at the level of the chairpersons of the international affairs committees,” the Chairwoman continued. “We consider this very right, we support such initiative of the Kyrgyz side.”

Earlier, Chairperson of the Council of the Federation Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev had spoken about the need for closer cooperation between parliamentarians of the SCO member states during a meeting with Indian Ambassador Bala Venkatesh Varma.

He believes that the upcoming meeting in Bishkek can serve as a basis for concrete agreements.

"There, future decisions regarding the parliamentary dimension of the SCO as a whole will be discussed. We hope that we can reach some final decisions already within the framework of the Russian presidency at the SCO next year. We also look forward to a close, trustful dialogue with our counterparts from India Parliament ", Kosachev said.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization brings together eight member states. These are the Republic of India, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the People’s Republic of China, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Four more countries have observer status: the Islamic State of Afghanistan, the Republic of Belarus, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Mongolia. Six countries are dialogue partners of the SCO - the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, the Republic of Turkey, and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
